New Zealand - Railway Accident
- Train derailed on the west coast to Christchurch line, A view of the wrecked locomotive and trucks
- Fortunately, when the accident occurred the train was proceeding at low speed through a cutting and slowing up for Cora Lynn station. The engine struck half-closed points and left the rails, dragging the trucks with it. The Westinghouse brake was immediately applied by the driver, whose promptitude probably averted serious loss of life, as over fifty people were travelling in the carriages further back. As it was, those in the first carriage, which was also derailed, had a nerve-racking experience.
