HOW TO BUY A LOT AT AUCTION When you have decided on an item you wish to bid on we recommend you contact one of our specialists who can give you a fair and accurate description of the item and provide you with further photographs and information Once you are satisfied with the item the next step is to register. Prior to the sale you must register with Coys in order to bid. There are a number of ways you can bid. ATTENDING THE SALE Prior to the item coming under the hammer, we suggest as early as possible, you complete a Bidders registration form and supply two forms of identification such as a Passport, Drivers Licence or bank cards. Registration only takes a few minutes and on completion you will be issued with a paddle number. We advise you to attend the auction in person so you can satisfy yourself on the lot you wish to bid on. TELEPHONE BIDDING If you are unable to attend the auction yourself you can bid over the telephone. A telephone bidding form needs to be completed detailing the lot you wish to bid on and supplied with two forms of identification, (passport, drivers licence etc) and either faxed to the Coys office or handed to Coys staff prior to the sale. On the day of the sale you will be contacted by Coys approximately 3 lots prior to the item you wish to bid on. The bids in the room will be detailed to you and you will be asked if you wish to bid until you cease bidding or are successful. Download Absentee Bidders Form COMMISSION BIDS If you are unable to make a telephone bid you can leave a commission bid. The telephone bidding form needs to be completed as above but you need to complete the Commission Bids section. Please state the lot number and the items description along with the highest bid you wish to leave. We will bid on your behalf up to the price stated. PREMIUM Buyers are reminded that a 15% Buyers Premium is payable on the first £50,000/€50,000 and 12.5% on any amount thereafter of the final Hammer Price. VAT, at the standard rate, is payable on the Premium. SELLING AT AUCTION Selling a car at auction is a lot easier than you may think. We will then advise you which upcoming sales will be the most appropriate for your lot to achieve the highest price in the market. We will discuss the following points: The Reserve which represents the minimum figure you would be prepared to accept and is a confidential figure. Commission Rates which are a percentage we deduct from the hammer price upon a successful sale only. Catalogue Fees which cover the catalogue production, advertising and marketing.
