Nimes Gard Region France PLM France / 1922 / Travel Posters / A. Eloy-Vincent / 105x74 Original vintage travel advertising poster published by the Paris Lyon Mediterranee (P.L.M.) French railway company and the Visitor Centre of Regional Interest (Syndicat d'Initiative des Interets Regionaux) to promote the city of Nimes and surrounding area, the Gard. Colourful artwork depicting some of the tourist attractions, including the Pont du Gard bridge, Maison Carree (Square House), Tour Magne (Great Tower), Roman Arena amphitheatre and the medieval city walls of Aigues-Mortes with the text in stylised blue and yellow letters and border decorated with an ornamental frieze of grape vines and other fruit with the coat of arms from the various places. Nimes is an ancient historic city located in South France in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, by the Mediterranean Sea and the Cevennes mountains; the crocodile and palm tree coat of arms stems from the Latin - Col Nem Colonia Nemausus - dating back to 118 BC when it was an important Roman Empire city.
