Great illustration by the artist and pictorial map designer Kerry Lee (1902-1988) of the ancient Roman border city of Carlisle located south of Scotland near Hadrian's Wall on the rivers Eden, Caldew and Petteril, depicting the historic Carlisle Castle (built 1092) and Carlisle Cathedral with other buildings, the English flag and illustrations of a monk, soldiers, a Roman Centurian, a bridge over the River Eden and people wearing traditional Scottish kilts as well as the Carlisle coat of arms and decorative compass point below. Printed by Waterlow and Sons of London and Dunstable. Good condition, light staining, minor creasing, light fold marks.
