Prestige Philately: Public Auction 149 - Tuesday 28th July 2009 (4PM AEST): 1911-15 Monocolours (SG 84-92w): Lot 2159: DIE PROOFS: 1d in close to the issued rose-pink colour on wove paper (60x78mm), two contemporary parallel ink-lines across the design, a single minor tonespot at upper-right well clear of the stamp impression hardly detracts. Ex Belknap (1987) & Rybak : acquired for $12,075 (2008). One of the most famous, attractive, and desirable proofs of Papua. This marvellous item was apparently discovered after publication of Croaker's "Lakatoi I" (1983), as it is not recorded there. Peter Troy observed that close examination of the proof reveals albino impressions of the 'PAPUA' tablet below the printed impression, & the '1d' value tablet to the right of the impression.
