Phoenix Auctions: 1855 6d Too Late Woodblock Imperforate: Lot 137: 6d Lilac and Green [Pos 9] SG #33 overprinted 'SPECIMEN' Type 10, part original gum, and faint horizontal crease of no significance. Produced in 1879 when a number of obsolete Victorian stamps were overprinted with the contemporary handstamp. Two examples now exist, the other being in the Royal Collection. A third was known in the Purves collection but was destroyed in the Ash Wednesday bushfires. This stamp must rank as one of the most important and desirable Victorian Specimen stamps. Illustrated in The Specimen Stamps of Victoria by Kellow, Turner and McCredie, page 23.
