Adams, John - Northwest Territory Land Grant Countersigned by Timothy Pickering (1735-1826) Second President of the United States (1797-1801). Document signed "John Adams" as President, one page, vellum, 12¾ x 13¾", Philadelphia, Jan. 24, 1798. Countersigned by Secretary of State Timothy Pickering. Granting 914 acres northwest of the River Ohio and above the mouth of Kentucky River to Abijah Hunt, assignee of James Ross. Wafer seal is intact. Document is toned and foxed; heavy wear affects legibility heading and a few lines of text, and there are a couple of pinholes in the vertical fold. Fortunately, however, Pickering's signature is quite clear and John Adams' large, bold signature is a fantastic example, unaffected by the aforementioned blemishes. Matted and framed to an overall size of 20¼ x 21½". Ex The Wolfe Family Trust Collection.
