Historics at Brooklands / Brooklands Museum 1st June 2013 Car - 01/06/2013 / 1978 MG B Roadster / Lot 401
The MGB was launched in May 1962 to replace the MGA and was introduced as a four-cylinder roadster with a coupé added in 1965. It was a relatively modern design at the time of its introduction utilizing a monocoque structure instead of the traditional 'body-on-frame' construction used on both the MGA and MG T-types. The lightweight design reduced manufacturing costs while adding to overall vehicle strength. Wind-up windows were standard and a comfortable driver's compartment offered plenty of legroom. This example was restored in 1992 by marque specialist TONI in London N1, with new wings, doors, inner and outer sills being the major items replaced on the body. Some 20 years on, this MGB still presents in good condition and has clearly been well maintained. A collection of invoices are supplied together with a V5 registration document and a full year's MoT test certificate. Finished in white with black trim, this roadster is also fitted with overdrive. A good quality introduction to the pleasures of classic motoring with the added bonus of the backup of one of the biggest clubs in the world.
