Roger Maris, Celebrated Home Run Hitter: Handwritten Note Card Apologizing to a Fan Roger Maris (1934-1985) celebrated baseball hitter and right fielder who played 12 seasons with the major leagues, which included Cleveland, Kansas City, NY Yankees and St. Louis. His 61 home runs in a single season in 1961 proved a phenomenal feat by any measure, even though there was controversy, fueled by commissioner Ford Frick, that Maris did not achieve that record within the same number of games as Babe Ruth. This dogged Maris for years and was a cause of great stress, even after he retired. To this day Maris has not been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Offered is a handwritten, 4 x 6" notecard, apologizing to a fan for misplacing some baseball cards and providing a signed photo instead (not present) as he could not locate them. Slabbed and authenticated by PSA/DNA. Near to mint condition.
