Historics at Brooklands / Brooklands Museum 3rd March 2011 Car - 03/03/2011 / 2008 Ford GT40 Continuation by Superformance / Lot 318
This 2008 Ford GT40 by Superformance is built to exacting standards of the original cars that beat Ferrari and finished in the top three positions in the gruelling Le Mans 24 Hours in 1966. In developing this GT40 continuation, Superformance went to great lengths to ensure authenticity. Such is the degree of precision and authenticity of this vehicle, that more than 90% of all the component parts are interchangeable with the original 1960''s cars'', including the entire ''monocoque'' pressed steel chassis and roof sections. In addition, chassis numbering continues from those of the original production run (GT40P 2000 Series). A superb endorsement of the quality and accuracy of these ''Continuations'' has recently been the delivery of a new red/gold Mk I to none other than Alan Mann Racing, whose team had such great success with these cars in the 1960's. Powered by a mighty 7 litre, 427 c.i. Roush/Ford V8, developing 550 bhp, this car accurately captures the GT40 experience and is as close as conceivably possible in both performance and finish to an original GT40 Mk II. Transmission is by 5 speed original ZF style transaxle, with right hand sill side gear change. Complete with Halibrand wheels, Avon correct period profile tyres, air-conditioning and a special period number plate, this vehicle is appropriately finished in white with blue racing stripe and was originally built for non other than Rod Leach of Rod Leach's Nostalgia as his personal car. SKO 954 is legitimately titled and badged as a ''GT40'' and is listed in the S.A.A.C. World Registry. Having covered mere running in mileage of 1500 miles it offers a rare opportunity for its next owner and, with prices of new cars to this specification having just been increased to over £120,000, great value for money.
