The Mondial offers an affordable entry into Ferrari ownership with the benefit of the added practicality of its 2+2 configuration. Conceived as Ferrari's 'world car' and rival to the Porsche 911, the Mondial stayed in production from 1980 to 1993 through four distinct variants. The last and best of them - the Mondial T - was sufficiently different to almost warrant a new name. By now the original 3.0 litre V8 had been enlarged to the 3.4 litre as shared with the Ferrari 348, delivering nearly 300bhp. The 'T' suffix refers to the switch from a transverse engine and gearbox to a new in-line engine/transverse box layout that allowed the engine to be mounted much lower in the chassis, offering a dramatic improvement in handling. Other innovations on the Mondial T included electronic variable suspension, air conditioning and power steering, along with various styling changes. We are pleased to offer today this Ferrari Mondial T that is believed to be one of only 47 sold in the UK in righthand drive form, making it a rare beast indeed. The indicated mileage of circa 53,400 is supported by old MOTs and a fairly extensive service history. The records show that it has been very lightly used in the last six years of ownership. More importantly, in the past nine months, it has been subject to works totalling nearly £8,000 including a major cam belt service by marque specialists Foskers, a full gearbox rebuild and a new clutch. The vendor has spent considerable time and effort getting the Ferrari fully sorted; even replacing the often troublesome sunroof mechanism and fitting four new tyres in June this year. Today, the car presents very well with the Rosso Corsa coachwork complemented by the Crema leather interior. The coachwork has had some remedial paintwork in the past, but the panels appear all original, very straight and rust free and set off well by the alloy wheels which are in excellent condition. With Mondial prices starting to rise, this represents an opportunity to enter into Ferrari ownership without breaking the bank and the recent major works carried out reassuringly give peace of mind. It will transport four adults and plus luggage in comfort and is capable of getting from A to B very rapidly indeed. With UK registration, a current MoT certificate valid until June 2013 and road fund licence valid until the end of October 2012, this Ferrari is ready to be enjoyed on the open road straight away.
