Historics at Brooklands / Ascot Racecourse 20th May 2017 Cars - 20/05/2017 / 1987 Jaguar XJS HE Coupé / Lot 199
The Jaguar XJS was a luxury grand tourer produced from 1975 through to 1996, replacing the E-Type. Although it never had quite the same sporting image, the XJS proved a competent grand tourer and was actually more aerodynamic than the E-Type. The last XJS was produced on 4th April 1996; at that stage 115,413 had been produced during a 21 year production life and the specifications of the XJS compared well with both Italian cars; it was able to accelerate to 60mph in 7.6 seconds and had a top speed of 143mph. From July 1981, the XJS received the new High-Efficiency engine (HE) for much better economy and as a by-product, power was increased to 295bhp. Presented in unmarked metallic burgundy with cream leather interior, this lovely V12 XJS has been subject to a complete restoration and thus is described by the vendor as a show car. With a very low 41,000 miles from new, the service booklet shows a dealer or specialist service stamp every year from new and within the history file are images of the restoration alongside a Jaguar Heritage Certificate. Offered with a year's MoT test certificate, a comprehensively stamped service book and in such glorious condition, could this XJS finally be living up to the bill that its forerunner, the E-Type, has set?
