Historics at Brooklands / Brooklands Motor Museum 6th June 2015 Cars - 06/06/2015 / 1971 Alfa Romeo 1300 GT Junior / Lot 272
The Alfa Romeo 105 series coupé was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Bertoné and was considered to be one of his greatest designs. Not only as one of the best looking and handling classic saloon cars of the period, but the advanced specification with its five-speed gearbox, all round disc brakes, independent suspension and powerful twin-cam engine still has the capability to embarrass many of its modern counterparts. This 1971 example offered today is presented in Giallo Ochra (Yellow Ochre) with contrasting black Alfatex trim. Some restoration works have been undertaken over the past ten years and are recorded within the history file and amounting to approximately £12,500. An inspection underneath the car shows that previous works, although sound, are not to concourse standards. The vendor informs us that an engine rebuild has more recently been carried out with the invoice totaling approximately £5,700. On a recent test drive, the little Alfa started easily and displayed excellent oil pressure. Once warmed, the car drove well with gear changes being easy and the car pulling to a stop with reassurance. Reversing provided none of the jumping out of reverse gear that sometimes is a common problem on these models. This GT Junior looks smart, is a genuine righthand drive, UK registered example and comes with a current MoT test certificate valid until 30 September 2015. With these attractive Bertoné coupés being as popular as ever, it is felt that this example offers excellent value given the keen estimate.
